The staff at Farangbowl Magazine like to party and I myself am a huge fan of dance music, in particular house and deep house. For those of you who are familiar with the Ajunabeats records label I salute you.

It became apparent that the Bowl ought to start covering nightlife activities in Thailand (it was only a matter of time) and so we decided to approach DJ’s that might want to share some words about their musical careers and impart some life learnt experiences. A particular DJ that caught our eye was DJ Claudia Diamond who upon reviewing her resume on Facebook had played just about here there and everywhere geographically.

Claudia and I agreed to meet at her splendid villa in Chalong and have a chat al fresco by the pool.
Brazilian born Claudia had air of class and charm about her that I found myself being lured into for all the right reasons. What you see is what you get and what you see is an attractive and intelligent lady who appears to have achieved what she has wanted to in life, and yet, still has her toes elegantly dipped in the fast lane.
“I’ve always loved music and have always had something to do with music”.

Her Brazilian accent was intriguing, and I listened intently as she told the Bowl how although she is Brazilian by birth born in the city of Belo Horizante, considers herself a global citizen having travelled extensively throughout her career. Not many of you will be aware, but Claudia is also a fully qualified lawyer and was working for her government (the Ministério Público do Estado de Goiás) from 2004 – 2009. This was right up until she met with her now husband who according to Claudia introduced her to his DJ turntables and changed her life forever. She added “I’ve always loved music and have always had something to do with music”.
I asked Claudia to describe the style of music she plays and she said “I’m really eclectic, I play almost every type of house from tribal, soulful, funky, tech and now deep house, however, I always like to stick to my roots and return to soulful and electric house”. I added that having watched various YouTube video performances that there is a distinct Latino sound to her music and she absolutely agreed.
In and among Claudia’s professional DJ schedule she has also found time to teach DJ’ing professionally from her home. As this was her position with ‘The Ministry of Sound’ where she taught in London and Switzerland in 2009 to 2011-2013 respectively it made sense to teach here in Phuket.
One of the main reasons why the Bowl approached Claudia was the fact that this lady holds two weekly residences at two of the most popular beach clubs here on the Island of Phuket. One venue that she appears at every Tuesday is the incredibly popular Tann Terrace Beach Club on Kata/Karon Beach where she performs from 19:30 and the other is the almighty Café Del Mar every Thursday who have an exclusive beach club on Kalama Beach where she plays from 20:00 until late. We congratulated her on this achievement and Claudia humbly acknowledged that it felt good to still be on track professionally.
I pressed on with her professional career and recited all the countries that she has played to date from Egypt, Switzerland, Doha, Dubai, Turkey and Portugal and asked if there was a country that she would really like to play but hadn’t. “I’ve been to Goa in India, and I would love to play there” she replied. “I was amazed by the energy there and its something that I’d like to explore” she added.
I asked what Phuket was like compared to other more conservative countries and was interested to hear that Phuket was lively and fun, however, one of her fondest memories was in Doha in a club inside a hotel. We concluded that no matter where you are, if you have a crowd in front of your turntables then have a ball and give them a party.
I closed the interview by asking what the future had install for DJ Claudia Diamond and Claudia summarized by saying that she is happy with where her life is now with her family in Phuket. This is her home and although she has professional bookings in Europe in the coming months, she prefers her relaxed lifestyle and is pleased the jet setting days are behind her.

The Farangbowl met with Claudia at Tann Terrace Beach Club that evening and watched in awe as she worked up a crowd and played some incredible music to the unsuspecting tourists who arrived at the club looking for a good time. And boy did they have a good time. Tann Terrace Beach Club is an idyllic venue and is a must visit when in Kata/Karon.

Thank you to Claudia for inviting us to her home and allowing the Bowl to film her DJ. We would also like to thank and all the staff at Tann Terrace especially the management for allowing us to film there.
